PRESIDENT’S  MESSAGE

Dear LARA members

The year 2006 – 2007 promises to be a banner year for Langley Amateur Radio Association.  You have elected a great team of dedicated members as your executive and positive results are already beginning to happen.

By allowing the Executive Committee to do the preliminary planning for club activities and then having the members vote on these suggestions has shortened our business meetings and allowed us to have more educational and social meetings.

By having a “Committee Head” for the various activities and members choosing which committee and activity they want to participate in provides an opportunity for everyone to do the things they enjoy most.  We are all well aware of the declining interest in Amateur Radio and yet there are many new and exciting technologies being introduced to Amateur Radio and your executive has promised to promote and provide seminars on these subjects.

The recent seminar on Digital radio is a good example.  Many members of LARA are also members of the Langley’s ESS Communications group and this activity has helped to further bond our members and provide a major contribution to our community and at the same time having a lot of fun doing what we like … working with radios.  Last year we  joined up with the Surrey Club for field day and we will do the same this year … it should be bigger, better and more fun than ever – we hope to get as many of our members to participate, especially our newly licensed operators looking for an opportunity to become familiar with HF/Antennae systems, etc.

There are lots of new and exciting things happening with the club and you are encouraged to invite any interested friends to our meetings.  Licensed operators may be encouraged to join or rejoin.  It is proposed by RAC that a  new introductory license system be considered by Industry Canada and for 2007 – who knows how many new members we might get.  LARA is growing … we have fun meetings … we are in good financial shape and we are making a positive contribution to our community … be proud that you are a member!
