LARA YOUTH OUTREACH PROJECT: International Space Station Contact LARA and Belmont Elementary have had an application for a contact with the ISS accepted by ARISS. ARISS, Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) is an international volunteer program which inspires students, worldwide, to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math through amateur radio communications opportunities with the International Space Station (ISS) on-orbit crew. Greg Banta (VA7GAB), a LARA Director, and Jason Proulx (VE7UGN), a Belmont teacher, are coordinating the event. LARA members, and the school district are working together to prepare the necessary equipment and to orchestrate the radio event itself. There is no set time for the exciting radio contact as yet, but watch the ARISS website for the schedule of school contacts. Jason will be promoting the study of radio communications, and space sciences to the students at Belmont. Students will compete for the exciting opportunity to ask one of the ISS astronauts a question related to space. Maybe one day we will have a Belmont student inspired to study space sciences or communications for a career! Greg Banta VA7GAB
